The Birth of Taurob
Taurob was founded in 2010 by Lukas Silberbauer and Matthias Biegl. Their original aim was to develop robots for fire-fighting missions. The company has gradually expanded into various other fields, including Civil Defense, CBRN Detection, Police, Academia and most recently, the Oil & Gas industry. In 2012, Taurob introduced the world’s first ATEX certified (i.e. suitable for explosive environments) mobile robot.
A first round of investments was successfully completed in 2013, with capital from Austria Wirtschaftsservice and a private investor. After a three-and-a-half-year period of intensive development and competition, Taurob –together with our research partner Technische Universität Darmstadt– became the winner of the Total ARGOS Challenge in 2017. The first fully autonomous inspection robot for Oil & Gas sites was created.
Taurob has since further developed its technology to expand the capabilities of its robots, while at the same time looking into the most efficient and effective way of applying our technology in various industries. Therefore, Taurob today consists of two business units. Taurob Technologies (based in Vienna, Austria) focuses on R&D – developing the next generation of robotics with enhanced capabilities. Taurob Services (based in Salies du Salat, South of France) provide manufacturing and servicing for our fleet of robots.
