taurob’s tracker is also available in an ATEX certified version. Thus, enabling the operator to gain first hand information in potentially explosive atmospheres. The “taurob tracker Ex” robot has been certified to comply with the 94/9/ EC ATEX directive (Zone 1, II 2 G Ex c IIC T4, certificate No. TÜV-A 13ATEX0007 X) and is in operational use by fire departments. All components are proven in use in very demanding environments. Also, being familiar with the regulatory framework and ATEX relevant norms and standards, taurob can supply customized ATEX solutions in the field of mechatronic systems.


Universal teleoperation console

Robust, easy-to-use control device with integrated radio interface for remote control of numerous vehicles. The all-in-one solution provides quick situational awareness. Based on taurob’s robust control unit for the operation of mobile robots, the universal teleoperation console can be customized for different tasks in terms of hardware as well as software. Thus, the control unit is ideal for the operation of machines of different designs, where teleoperation may be critical but not provided by the manufacturer (e.g. forklifts, trucks, UAVs, excavators, etc.). The high quality design is very comfortable to wear. The underlying software is designed for Windows 7, and is easily configurable. It can be adapted according to customers’ needs and specifications. Also, other radio modules (different frequencies) can be employed.

Measurement devices

taurob employs many interfaces for easy and quick integration of different kinds of sensors and measurement devices. Security and military organizations have to be prepared for a broad spectrum of missions and deal with unpredictable threats. Also, traditionally different types of measurement devices from various manufacturers are employed within one security organisation. Thus, absolute certainty about vitally important measurement data can be gained via redundancy. taurob can integrate almost any measurement device as long as an interface is provided – from multi-gas-detectors and radiometers to chemical agent monitors (turn page for more detailed information). taurob’s robots are able to operate in potentially explosive atmospheres (ATEX certification by TUEV Austria). In order to keep the system ATEX safe it is important that the measurement devices and their interfaces are ATEX certified as well.


Thermal imaging


The taurob tracker can be equipped with additional cameras for best situational awareness. Most importantly, a thermal image camera can be attached to the robot (for ATEX safety the camera needs to be placed inside a housing). Thanks to the thermal image camera on the robot, security forces are able to detect injured or trapped people in difficult terrain and confusing situations without putting themselves at risk (e.g. due to the danger of structural collapse). Also, for border protection units a robotic system with thermal image camera is of great use. Daunting and tedious monitoring in harsh environments can be very consumptive for humans as opposed to an enduring robot with a thermal image camera. Additonally, the thermal image camera would prove crucial for riskless evaluation missions, such as the assessment of the state of gas bottles (e.g. acethylen), kettles or pipes and their respective filling level.


Claw and additional tools

Gaining first hand information is critical. However, effectively dealing with a dangerous substance or taking samples is equally important. Therefore, taurob has equipped the robot with a unique claw concept in order to manipulate dangerous objects. The robotic hand is able to open doors, turn valves, take samples and much more. Consequently, the robot becomes the extension of the operator’s hand. Thanks to taurob’s intelligent software manipulation is very easy and required training effort is comparatively low. Also, different additional tools are employed for the gripper.


Window breaking tool

In order to safely remove and assess samples of dangerous substances without endangering security personnel taurob has developed a lockable sample container. It can be opened automatically by rotary movement of the gripper. The lid contains the actual removal device (wipe, pipette, shovel,..) by which the sample is taken. A preset movement of the arm safely stores the respective substance.


Door opening tool

It is possible to open most doors with the gripper. However, the necessary arm movements are for experienced useres only. Therefore, taurob has developed a special hook that allows for quick and easy door handeling. In addition, the hook may also be used for transporting dangerous goods.


Zoom camera

For an accurate assessment of hazardous substances, being able to read the respective labels is very important. taurob‘s zoom camera reaches 300% of the average human vision. The zoom camera can be removed if not used or replaced by other devices.
